Damiao Omnidirectional AGV
4-wheel omnidirectional mobile base with mecanum wheels, 100 kg payload capacity, and 4-hour battery life. Move laterally, diagonally, and rotate in place -- no turning radius constraint. Mount OpenArm or DK1 on top for mobile manipulation.
True Omnidirectional Motion
The Damiao AGV uses a 4-wheel omnidirectional (4WS4WD) configuration with mecanum wheels. It can translate laterally, move diagonally, and rotate in place -- all without a turning radius. This makes it ideal for manipulation tasks in cluttered environments, narrow lab aisles, and mobile data collection setups where precise base positioning matters.
Mobile Manipulation
Mount an OpenArm 101 or DK1 bimanual kit on the top plate. Both the AGV agent and arm agent register simultaneously in a Fearless Platform session for synchronized teleoperation.
No Firmware Modification
The dami_agent.py Python bridge encodes platform commands as standard DBUS RC frames -- works with stock AGV firmware over UART5.
Safe Auto-Stop
Built-in 300 ms command timeout: if the platform connection drops, the AGV automatically stops. On shutdown, three center-position frames are sent before the serial port closes.

Safety Features
Obstacle Detection
360-degree 2D LiDAR detects obstacles at up to 12 m range. The nav2 costmap integrates LiDAR and ultrasonic bumper data for collision-free path planning.
Emergency Stop
Physical E-stop button on the chassis immediately cuts motor power. Software watchdog (300 ms timeout) stops the AGV if the command stream is interrupted.
Speed Limiting
Configurable max speed zones. When operating near people or in confined spaces, set the speed limit to 0.5 m/s for safe coexistence.
Fleet Management
For multi-AGV deployments, SVRC provides fleet coordination through the Fearless Platform. Each AGV registers as an independent agent in a shared session.
Centralized Dashboard
Monitor battery level, position, and task status of every AGV in real-time from the Fearless Platform web dashboard. Alert on low battery or navigation failures.
Task Dispatch
Assign waypoint missions to individual AGVs or let the scheduler balance load across the fleet. API-driven for integration with warehouse management systems.
Traffic Coordination
Multi-AGV path planning avoids deadlocks in narrow corridors. The fleet planner reserves path segments to prevent head-on conflicts.
Use Cases
Warehouse & Lab Logistics
Autonomous point-to-point transport of bins, trays, and equipment. The 100 kg payload handles most lab cargo. Waypoint missions run 24/7 with automatic recharging.
Mobile Manipulation Research
Mount OpenArm 101 or DK1 on the top plate. Record whole-body demonstrations -- base, arm, and hand teleoperation data in a single synchronized episode.
Mobile Data Collection
Drive the AGV to different workstations and collect manipulation demonstrations at each location. The mobile base eliminates the need to move the robot arm between setups.
